Key Features
Size and layout. A 28x60 double-wide is not built as one 28-foot box. It leaves the plant as two 14-foot-wide sections, each 60 feet long, which are joined on site along the mating line, sometimes called the marriage line. That mating wall carries structural load, so the piers beneath it are set to the manufacturer's spacing and are part of the installation drawings supplied with the home.
Transport and siting. Two sections mean two permitted moves, two sets of oversize permits and, in most states, escort vehicles for each. Both halves have to reach the pad, so access needs to be assessed for the full length of the route, not just the last hundred feet. Budget site work for a pad that is level and compacted across the full 28-foot width plus working room at the perimeter.
Foundation and compliance. Multi-section homes can sit on an engineered pier-and-anchor system or on a permanent perimeter foundation. The choice matters beyond engineering: mortgage products that treat the home as real property generally require a permanent foundation and land you own. Each of the two sections carries its own HUD certification label, and the data plate inside the home records the wind zone, roof load zone and thermal zone the unit was designed for.

Transport & Siting Notes for This Plan
This home travels as 2 sections of approximately 14 feet wide each. The standard legal load width on US highways is 8 feet 6 inches, so each move requires an oversize permit from every state on the route. At this width most states also require pilot or escort vehicles and restrict movement to daylight hours. Two sections means two permitted moves and two sets of escort arrangements.
At 60 feet long, turning radius matters at every corner between the highway and your pad, and the pad itself needs to be level and compacted across the full 28-foot width with working room at the perimeter. Read more about route surveys, permits and site access for delivery.
As a multi-section home, the halves are joined on site along the mating line. That wall is structural, so the pier layout beneath it follows the manufacturer's installation drawings, and the heating and cooling duct, water, drain and electrical crossovers between the halves are completed during set-up. Those crossovers should be supported, insulated and sealed before the skirting closes in.
Footings must bear on undisturbed soil at or below the local frost depth, and the finished grade should fall away from the home so surface water does not collect beneath it. See what site preparation and installation involve, or check the FAQ on zoning, permits and financing before committing to a plan.
